Celtic’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond is reportedly closing in on a £3million investment which will see him have a stake in Irish club Shamrock Rovers going forward.

We reported about this late last year with the finer details still to be worked out but the deal looks very much at its late stages now.

It’s thought this is nothing to do with Shamrock Rovers becoming a feeder club for Celtic and this is an investment outwith Desmond’s interest with Celtic.

The businessman will plough money into the club to help them upgrade their facilities and build on their infrastructure. Desmond is not going to have a controlling stake in the club but the Irish Sun report around 25% will go to the Irishman.

Desmond has handpicked most of Celtic’s managers for the past twenty years since investing in the club with the McCann takeover. He doesn’t attend many games or take anything to do with the day to day running of the club.
