MICHAEL STEWART has been discussing who should be the next manager of Celtic.

The BBC pundit laid out arguments for three managers who could take the reins this summer as the club look shift and restructure after this season.

It’s no surprise he brings up Rafa Benitez who was linked with the Celtic job two years ago. The Spaniard currently unemployed but looking to get back into the game.

Stewart also puts a case forward for the former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard. Personally, that would be more of a flashy signing than a proper manager coming into the club.

The pundit then brings up Steve Clarke, who he doesn’t want to see leave the Scotland post but Stewart thinks it’s inevitable that Clarke will be linked and that Celtic will be looking at him.

Writing for BBC Scotland, the pundit said:

“Rafa Benitez has done some incredible work. To land him, it would probably take principal shareholder Dermot Desmond pulling out the stops and saying, ‘What do you want? Right, there you go.’ Like any top name, he would look for assurances and guarantees. But he might view Celtic as a place to enjoy himself, finish his career and sail off into the sunset.

“Frank Lampard is young and relatively inexperienced, but I think he’d be looking at Celtic as an opportunity to move back down south fairly quickly.

“I’m loath to bring up Steve Clarke, but it’s inevitable he will be discussed. He’s been successful with Scotland as well and not only do the Euros finish days before Celtic’s first prospective Champions League qualifier but the World Cup is only next year. That would certainly help entice Clarke to stay put, but I would imagine Celtic will definitely look to speak to him.”

There’s likely going to be names people aren’t discussing on a potential list of managers to replace Neil Lennon. It’s important the board get this right and Celtic can be in the best position come August.
