Struggling Partick Thistle Boss and former Celtic defender Gary Caldwell has called in a favour with ex-Celtic teammate Scott McDonald as Caldwell tries to rescue the club from another relegation.

With two thirds of the season gone Thistle are currently dead last in the Championship. Caldwell came in earlier this season but has found the going tough in Scotland’s second tier.

With the Glasgow outfit only scoring 23 goals so far this term, Caldwell has pulled McDonald out of retirement in the hope his experience will get the club to safety.

McDonald has taken up media duties after leaving Dundee Utd back in 2018.

The striker will stay with Thistle until the end of the season but as moves go, this is as desperate as it gets for Caldwell.

Not knocking Scott McDonald’s ability but bringing a guy in who has not even been near a training field in 6 or 7 months is very telling.

Will the frontman be able to help Thistle stay in the league?
