Let’s face it, anytime a player in the SPFL starts to hit a bit of form he gets linked with Celtic. Hibs John McGinn and Motherwell’s Louis Moult are the two latest players to fit the bill.

McGinn got his attention not only from his good form in the SPFL but he also was a stand out performer at Celtic Park when he came close to ending the champions unbeaten run. Himself and Callum McGregor bagged the goals that day and both made full international debuts shortly after. Moult had been doing his business away from Celtic, mainly against Aberdeen and The Rangers.

I felt opinions were divided on him. Some felt he could do a job and others felt he was no better than anyone we already had on our books. Give him a trilogy to prove himself and let’s see if he can mix it with the best. If he could do damage to Celtic over 270 minutes of football maybe he could become a real contender.

The reality is he didn’t even make the 270 minutes, apart from a glancing header and nearly breaking Scott Brown’s nose, Moult has failed his ‘Celtic interview’. He may as well of been up in the stands throwing coins. I’ve no doubt he’ll get back in amongst the goals but a Celtic player he is not. If Celtic had any interest in him, they don’t anymore.

What about John McGinn?
