Cluj director, Marius Bilasco has been forced to come out and deny Dan Petrescu left his job at Cluj to pursue the Celtic job if it becomes available.

Petrescu has claimed he was sacked while Cluj insisted the former Chelsea man walked from his position as boss.

Bilasco was asked about potential Celtic interest but claims he has no idea what’s going on with the manager and where he will end up next.

“I have no way of knowing if Celtic’s interest in Dan Petrescu is true.” the director told SunSport.

“We asked him about it, but he explained he had decided to leave anyway.

“If you have a manager who wins you three titles in a row and who gets you into Europe, why would we want him to leave?

“Dan Petrescu has always attracted interest from many clubs. He had the support of the board and this was his decision.”

There’s no job up for grabs at Celtic at the moment after the club came out and backed their manager after a string of horrible results and performances. Neil Lennon’s Celtic career looked dead in the water on Sunday but Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond have come out and said Neil Lennon will get the chance to turn things around.

Petrescu was the man who orchestrated Celtic’s Champions League exit two seasons ago, the club would gain a measure of revenge in the Europa League group stage.

Celtic are in Milan ahead of their dead rubber tie against the Italian’s on Thursday night.
