The comment made by Conor McGregor on Sunday evening that he wouldn’t be averse to buying shares in the club and specifically Dermot Desmond’s shares has got the Celtic fans talking. The Tweet has gone viral.

The UFC Legend has built a brand over the years of being a brash, cocky fighter who can usually back up what he says in the octagon.

The Irishman has made millions off the back of his own promotion and dedication to his craft. The personality he cultivated has made him millions in endorsements too.

McGregor has a lot of support, but he also has a lot of detractors because he’s such a polarising figure.

When Celtic fans caught onto the UFC fighter’s post this morning, we were met with a lot of negativity on our social media page.

Given our vast audience, roughly 90% of people commenting were dead against McGregor buying shares. Some even calling him deluded and others claiming involvement in the club would be disastrous.

Celtic shares have become a hot topic. Our two biggest shareholders are Dermot Desmond and Lindsell Train who combined own over 50% of the club. That means the club could be open for bidders in the future for the right price and we’d be pretty powerless as a fan base to stop it.
