Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley has expressed his desire for Johnny Kenny to remain with the club next year after an impressive loan spell.
Kenny, on loan from Celtic, has showcased strong performances this season, even scoring in the Europa Conference League, reinforcing his value to the Irish side.
The 21-year-old striker, who joined Celtic in January 2022, has struggled to break into the first team at Parkhead, leading to frustration over limited contact and updates from his parent club.
Despite this, Kenny has flourished with Shamrock Rovers, finding consistent form and adding crucial goals to his tally.
Bradley highlighted that while discussions are ongoing between the two clubs, Celtic ultimately holds the power over Kenny’s future. He stated, “Discussions are ongoing with ourselves and Celtic. Celtic are in the driving seat, they call the shots. Celtic are quite clear on my feelings on what needs to happen.” [Echo]
Kenny’s continued success in Ireland makes him an attractive prospect for Rovers, who hope to secure an agreement that extends his stay. Whether Celtic sees him as part of their future plans or opts for another loan move remains to be seen, but the young striker’s development could weigh heavily in their decision.
With only two strikers at Celtic just now, Brendan Rodgers may look into bringing Kenny back this winter. Rocco Vata was eyes to play the third choice role, but he left for Watford in the summer.
