Francis McAvennie has taken a massive swipe at Celtic loan man Oliver Burke for his part in the Ibrox defeat last weekend.

The former Celtic striker pulled no punches as he singled out the West Brom player for not showing enough in the game and ‘strolling about’.

McAvennie was giving his opinion alongside Simon Ferry and Derek Ferguson and while we agree that Burke’s application wasn’t what it should’ve been – that goes for a lot of the Celtic team. The former Celtic and Rangers men smacked very much of two very old minded footballers who were harking back to their day when they dissected the game.

Here is McAvennie’s full rant:

“I thought the boy Burke was a disgrace,” McAvennie said. “He’s going to leave, but the Old Firm derby is one of the biggest games in the world. Ahead of the transfer window, you’re on show there.” McAvennie told OpenGoal.

“If it was me, I’m not staying here so I want to go to a good club. But on that performance, nobody is going to take him. He just strolled about, he was the highlight of the team.”

Celtic lost the game 2-0 and deserved their defeat. They didn’t show enough in the game and played like a side already on holiday. They had won the title already but their performance was very much lacking on the day.

Burke had a top start to his Celtic career but he hasn’t been used much under Neil Lennon and when he has, Oli hasn’t impressed.

With regards to the pundits, while we should respect the opinions of men who have played the game, it has to be said listening to the three lads on Open Goal is the equivalent of listening to old drunks down the pub. After watching some of it, I had the overwhelming urge to say ‘Enjoy yer night mate’.

  1. Frank McAvennie calling anybody a disgrace is laughable! “Show me the money R*nger$!” a year after kissing the badge in front of the jungle.
And he refers to the Glasgow derby as the O F that’ll be to keep his wee hun mates happy like “wee coisty!!’
