Chris Sutton has torn into Celtic loan striker Leigh Griffiths after his antics midweek saw the player charged by Police Scotland.

The BT pundit pulled no punches as he discussed the player’s behaviour during the Dundee vs St Johnstone tie.

Leigh was on the receiving end of some abuse from St Johnstone fans which was in poor taste. However, Leigh’s reaction was not acceptable.

Pyro was thrown onto the pitch after St Johnstone scored. Instead of running back to the half way line, Leigh ran over and volleyed the pyro back onto the crowd.

Sutton was clear Leigh’s behaviour was utterly in acceptable.

As cited by Record Sport: “I think there were songs being sung about Leigh but you cannot react in the manner in which he did.

“It’s disgraceful. I think there will be some sort of ban for him and deservedly so.

“Let’s get it right, there would’ve been kids in the crowd. Imagine, they’re going to watch a game of football and then have a flare kicked into the stands by a player, that isn’t a good look for Leigh and isn’t a good look for football.

“He needs to be punished. He needs to be made an example of.”

The striker was retained by Celtic for another year this summer. Ange Postecoglou decided it was best Leigh moved on after the online incident that prompted a police Scotland investigation.

A charge and now a likely football ban is set to come.

The striker has been confirmed for the Dundee squad this weekend when they take on The Rangers.
