Dominic McKay may have a big decision to make in the next seven days. Odsonne Edouard’s future and how we deal with it could shape our season massively.

The Hoops have regularly cashed in on their biggest assets, but both Celtic and Eddy seem to be a victim of timing. The money Celtic want for the striker doesn’t look like being met at the moment – could they lower their expectations before the end of the window? Absolutely – but is it the best outcome for Celtic?

Considering what’s at stake this season in the SPFL – the winners are likely to receive an automatic spot in the group stages of the Champions League. You could argue after the PSG sell-on clause has been paid to the French club, the money Celtic could land is minuscule in comparison to the riches of making the Champions League.

Can Edouard help get us there?

It could go two ways – the Frenchman could slow down knowing he will be out the door for good in the summer.

OR

Like many players on the final year of their contract, Eddy could up his game and play for his next deal The better he plays the better move he would get.

This could all be moot by the end of the window if Celtic hit the cash-in button not knowing if the Champions League money is realistically going to come in the door.

It is worth weighing these things up. Unfortunately, Eddy would always be one poor game away from being castigated for being lazy or not trying.

Would his presence cause a sideshow? Would Eddy’s availability to Ange mean the Australian pushes Kyogo Furuhashi out wide more often than not?

All these questions are pertinent.

However, what I do have faith in at the moment is our manager’s judgement. If Ange Postecoglou believes Edouard can be part of this new look Celtic side, he’s earned the right to make that call.

The decision could be taken out of his hands by the end of the window, but there seems to be a plan in place to bring in another striker if that happens.

Eddy can be sensational on his day and having both the Frenchman and Furuhashi in the same attacking line does intrigue me.

The transfer window closes in a weeks time. By the start of September, we’ll know what Ange has in his squad going forward into the winter months.
