It ended in defeat for Ange Postecoglou’s team in their first match of the Sydney Super Cup as the game finished 2-1.

The first half was a very open affair with Kyogo giving Celtic the lead after he managed to get a touch on to Alexandro Bernabei’s long range effort.

It wasn’t long before the Sydney FC pulled back level having smacked the crossbar twice. They eventually got their reward as Robert Mak pulled away from Stephen Welsh to pull the scoreline level which was a fair reflection on the opening 45 minutes.

There was a flurry of substitutes for Celtic after the interval with the introductions of Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Greg Taylor, Sead Haksabanovic and Jota. The match also allowed for minutes for players such as Oliver Abildgaard and Yosuke Ideguchi who have rarely played for Celtic.

Haksabanovic and Jota looked dangerous for parts of the second half but even with control of the second period the Hoops just couldn’t take their chances and were punished through a terrific curling effort from Max Burgess.

The match was a good workout for the players and was also an opportunity for some of the younger players to get some minutes with Rocco Vata, Scott Robertson and Bosun Lawal all getting minutes on the pitch.
