Celtic have this evening announced the signing of VVV-Venlo and Greece striker Giorgos Giakoumakis on a five-year deal.

The 26-year old has been linked with a move to the Hoops in recent weeks, with several sides taking an interest in bringing the 26-year old to the club.

This was due to the striker’s form last season in particular, finishing top goalscorer in the Dutch Eredivisie, despite his former side being relegated last campaign.

Giakoumakis has also appeared six times for his country, whilst also picking up experience along the way in the Polish League and the Greek Super League, where he played alongside current Celtic goalkeeper Vasilias Barkas at AEK Athens.

Speaking to the club’s website about joining up with Ange Postecoglou’s side, the frontman expressed his delight at getting this deal over the line.

“I’m really delighted to commit my long term future to Celtic, and I can’t wait to get started with my new teammates.

“Celtic is one of the world’s great football clubs with the best fans around.   It is a Club I have admired for so long, and it will now be an honour to wear this famous jersey.  To know that the Manager wanted me so much to join Celtic is really humbling, and it makes me know I have made the right choice.”

“We have some exciting challenges this season in Scotland and in Europe, and I will be doing all I can to help the team as much as possible and bring our supporters success.”

With Odsonne Edouard set to depart the club, this looks like some smart but also much-needed business by the club, adding to Ange Postecoglou’s attacking options.
