EMILIO IZAGUIRRE has crossed the divide in Honduras by signing a deal with his former club’s rivals.

Izzy had been playing football with FC Motagua since leaving Celtic for a second time. However, things turned sour in recent times and Izzy wasn’t getting game time. His contract wasn’t renewed and the player mulled over his next move in football.

SunSport report today Izzy has now signed a one-year deal for Motagua’s rival’s Marathon causing a stir back in his homeland.

The former Celtic hero doesn’t seem fussed by the switch and revealed he’s looking forward to playing in green once again.

“Marathon play in green and that looks good to me. It’s the colours of Celtic and I managed to win many titles with them.

“Hopefully, I can add another one to my collection here.

“I thank the board and the management of this club for putting their faith in me. Now I will do everything to repay them on the pitch.”

Izzy spent two spells at Celtic, the first spell he was our number one left back for quite some time and was only dislodged by Kieran Tierney. His second spell came when Brendan Rodgers brought the player back to be cover for Kieran when he was suffering a bad hip injury.

Marathon president seems delighted with the business speaking after the deal was done, Orinson Amaya, said: “This is one of the most important signings in the history of this great club.

“Emilio can take us to the next level.”

We wish Izzy all the best with his new club and hope he can do the business in the green again.
