If there was any doubt, any glimmer of hope from even the most ardent of Sevco journo/cheerleader that the Ibrox outfit could challenge Celtic, it was surely extinguished at the full time whistle at Pittodrie.

The headlines of “Celtic playing catch up”, “You’ll be fighting Aberdeen for second spot Celtic” and “Dembele signing doesn’t worry The Rangers because they have Barton” seem as out there as a Donald Trump speech. Of course, anyone with half a brain cell and without blue tinted specs knew that to ask this basket case club to be challenging for the league title in their first season in the top flight was utterly preposterous.

An Aberdeen team who were off form at the weekend managed to defeat a deflated team who lack cohesion, talent and a general sense of purpose.

The vitriol aimed at the referee by the away manager at full time was something of an unsavoury site and viewing that the SFA will HAVE to take action on.

Outwith the circus surrounding the game it would have actually been better for Celtic if the two teams played out the 1-1 draw. Aberdeen are our main title rivals and any points they drop should be met with glee from our supporters even though many will not begrudge the Dons a victory against a hurting Ibrox side.

Ultimately, Celtic look a stick on to lift the league title again. Any challenge Aberdeen can mount looks to be futile as the bhoys go about their business in a pleasing attacking fashion.

As for The Rangers, they should looks to solidify a top six finish if possible and hope to improve upon their situation next season.

  1. The pragmatist in me remembers the deceased club throwing away a 15 point lead under the leadership of the gardener. The Tim in me knows that we’re going to shaft them rigid Hail Hail!
