An interesting theory was floated by RecordSport’s, Michael Gannon on why Eddie Howe has not been signed by the club yet.

Speaking on the Daily Record Podcast, the reporter said he was only surmising but spoke as a very matter of fact as to why he thinks the Howe deal will get done.

Gannon believes Eddie Howe is still on the payroll at Bournemouth who are still paying part of his contract.

If that were to be the case, Celtic would be due to pay compensation to the Championship club.

Gannon believes Celtic are waiting for the green light with legalities.

“It’s more legalities and the finer points of contract details. I think that Eddie Howe will be at Celtic in the summer.

“I suspect that he might still be on the wage bill at Bournemouth and why pay £400,000 to get him out early when the season is done? He could be working away in the background.”

“I’m only surmising. These matters won’t be discussed because it is contractual matters and they are highly private.

“There is also Richard Hughes, that angle as well. Richard Hughes was a Premier League technical director on a good wedge as well. Would he get that at Parkhead? That’s another good part of the budget that Celtic are looking at, that they didn’t actually plan for.

“There’s wee things in the background going on like this that cost a lot of money but maybe in the longer term will get ironed out.

“The noises coming out of Celtic are positive this is close or they are optimistic. All these sort of warm, fuzzy phrases. Optimism is the word that’s getting used all the time about Eddie Howe. I don’t think there’s a panic at Celtic.”

Whether we like it or not, the club still so talk to these tabloids about what’s going on and feed them information.

Any reporter who has spoken about the deal happening has appeared very positive that it will go through.

Still being under contract at Bournemouth would make a lot of sense.

Celtic never wanted to bring someone in until the summer anyway so they’re happy to wait it out.

If that’s the case and Eddie knows he’s coming into Celtic already then plans for next season could already be getting drawn up.
