MIKEY JOHNSTON has revealed why he took a second half free kick when many expected Edouard to be on the end of it after scoring two goals.

Edouard came off the bench in the 63rd minute of the game with Celtic winning 1-0, by the 69th minute Celtic were 3-0 up that’s to an Eddy brace.

The striker would have started the game but he suffered from a toe injury which led to Neil Lennon putting the Frenchman on the bench. The Celtic manager not willing to risk his star striker for the full 90 minutes.

“Whenever he gets the ball he thinks something is going to happen. He’s unbelievable.” Johnston told SunSport.

“His is quiet as a character and he’s chilled as well. He’s also unselfish — I wanted him to hit that second-half free-kick for his hat-trick.

“But I was on free-kicks for the game and he said to me ‘no, on you go, take it’.

“I said to him, ‘you’re on your hat-trick, take it’, but he said ‘no, you take it'”

Fans inside the ground expected Edouard to take it because he was on a roll – Mikey did but nothing came of it.

The fact he’s telling his teammates to get involved and being selfless shows the ilk of the player’s character. He’s confident in his ability and wants to see his teammates get in on the act.

Celtic have a top class striker on their hands. When he finally does leave Parkhead, it will be for a record breaking amount.
