Former Celtic player and coach Peter Grant has claimed he expects Odsonne Edouard to play in the Glasgow Derby — even if he hasn’t got a full weeks worth of training under his belt.

Grant believes Neil Lennon won’t hesitate putting the striker into proceedings after the positive test if Eddy has been feeling fine and has had shown no symptoms.

The Glasgow Derby comes straight after the international break, as it stands right now, Celtic will be missing Ryan Christie who has to isolate and Eddy if the Celtic feel he’s not ready.

Grant thinks there’s every chance he will play.

“There is absolutely no doubt about that. That would have been his first thought when he got the phone call on Tuesday night.” Grant told SunSport.

“But if he is allowed to go back into training on the Thursday before the Rangers match, there is no doubt in my mind he would be available.

“If he’s in good health Neil will want him to play. He is such an important player for him in these big games.

“It won’t be a case of Neil forcing him to play or putting him under pressure, but if Edouard is feeling fine, why wouldn’t he play, even if he’s only back in training for a day or two?”

Celtic don’t have their problems to seek before this derby. The bhoys in green already have injury woes, there will be no support in the building and the international period could still unearth new issues.

Neil Lennon will be holding his breath and hoping the rest of his squad is available.
