Celtic need to bring in new players this summer and with the anticipated departure of Odsonne Edouard on the horizon, Celtic must find a goal scorer for next season.

Work should be well under way to identify targets and sound then out ahead of the summer, but we don’t know for sure what’s going on behind the scenes.

Former Celtic striker, Frank McAvennie believes Celtic should move for Dundee Utd man Lawrence Shankland to help fill a void and at the very least get someone in who can score goals other than Eddy.

Macca has come to the conclusion bout Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala should be out in the bin in favour or Shankland.

“I would take Shankland.  He would score goals.  Listen, take Klimala and take Ajeti out the picture, I’d take Shankland. All day all.  All day long.” McAvennie told Open Goal.

“I liked him when he came into the Scotland team and a lot of people where saying he wasn’t ready. I liked his movement, his movement of a striker.  He’s like McCoist, if you like.  The ‘keeper drops the ball and he’ll be there.

“A lot of strikers just stand and watch and don’t anticipate what could happen.”

It would be a major downgrade to see Eddy head out this summer and see Shankland come into the fold.

We hope the scouts at Celtic are more imaginative and can find a gem elsewhere.

Shankland, has only scored seven goals in 24 appearances for a struggling Dundee Utd this season. Has Macca even been watching or is he going off the player’s championship exploits.

If I had it my way — the striker wouldn’t get near a Celtic jersey.
