Earlier in the week, Celtic were linked with a surprise move for Middlesbrough midfielder Paddy McNair.

This wasn’t the first time the Hoops were linked with a move for the Northern Irish internationalist, and according to Teeside Live, both Celtic and West Ham were looking to make a move for the 26-year old.

However, Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has shut down any claims that McNair will be sold in the up-and-coming window, stating that he hasn’t heard of any concrete interest in McNair.

“We don’t have to fight hard to keep hold of him really because he’s our player and he understands where we are trying to get to,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Good players will always have interest in them, and especially at this time of the season coming into January, where there is a lot of speculation.

“Until I get a phone call, which I haven’t, everybody is here and fighting to get into the team and producing good performances and hopefully getting good results for the football club.”

The recent transfer rumours came as a bit of a surprise to many fans, with Ange Postecoglou appearing to take his Celtic side in a different direction at this point in time if you look at the targets he is attempting to bring in the coming window.

Of course, Wilder doesn’t shut off any possibility of the player moving on in the January transfer window, set to open in a matter of weeks.

But, in my opinion, I am not sure I see the club making this move for the player. With English Premier League sides also interested, it could potentially cost a substantial fee to bring him to Glasgow in any case.
