An update from Record Mexico has shed new light on Efraín Juárez’s situation, with the former Celtic player now facing an increasingly uncertain future at Pumas UNAM, just as reports emerge that Celtic are set to speak with him this week about their vacant managerial post.
Juárez, who became the first-ever Mexican player to represent Celtic when he joined the club in 2010, is currently enduring a difficult spell in charge of Pumas. His side sit 10th in Liga MX, having picked up just four wins, six draws and six defeats so far this season.
According to Record, Juárez’s position is now described as delicate, with two scenarios reportedly on the table.
The club could choose to dismiss him, or the 37-year-old could resign himself following a disappointing run of results.
Despite that uncertainty, it’s understood that Celtic remain interested in speaking with Juárez, who has emerged as one of the more left-field names on their eight-man shortlist to replace Brendan Rodgers.
Reports suggest the Scottish champions are planning a Zoom interview with the young manager later this week as part of their ongoing search for a long-term successor.
Whether he’ll still be in charge of Pumas by the time that call takes place, however, remains to be seen.
