Bhoys Analytics on social media is a glutton for punishment or should we say doling out punishment? Perhaps a bit of both.
The Amateur statistician delivered the cold hard facts on one of the reasons why Celtic have been so poor this season; decision making and more specifically, shooting from distance.
Ryan Christie takes most of the heat for this season and it’s very easy to show why.
Check out Bhoys Analytics video of some of the infuriating decisions made by Ryan this season.
Ryan Christie – Long Shot Madness
In the League – 1 goal from 51 shots outside the box
I try to show in this video how these shots damage build up play & prevent better chance creation.

We then have the overall shots from outside the box metrics – it makes for grim reading.
Christie, Turnbull and McGregor have had more shots outside the box than 8 whole SPFL teams, it’s just incredible.
BA also pointed out that 45% of all Celtic’s shots this season have come from outside the area.
It speaks to Neil Lennon’s tactics and views on the game. He wants his players to make things happen. Less organisation and more individual brilliance, but when you go through a bad spell you need structure.
Brendan Rodgers was criticised at times for the methodical way his team played from back to front and side to side. In the Irishman’s final season, teams sussed how we played and did try to stifle us, it became turgid at times but the bhoys always found a way.
They were trained and disciplined to wait for that chance, whether it comes in the first minute or the 95th. Wait for the chance and make sure that chance has a high percentage of being converted.
Compare and contrast that approach to the inept shoot on sight policy we’ve adopted when teams have stifled us this season.
It’s criminal a side like Celtic have been reduced to this.
We can only hope to see less of this next season. Celtic must have players who can break down stubborn defences and not be encouraged to make the kind of decisions that stop attacks dead.
Rodgers is a top manager who was to some degree chased from the club. His reputation could in time have been destroyed by interference. No doubt in my mind had he been afforded the level of ‘support’ he warranted we would have cruised to the ten and the other mob would have given up. The day we appointed NL, the huns felt they could stop us
Totally agree, he was put in a no win situation, he was looking forward and received no backing from the boardroom.
Best Celtic manager since Stein in his pomp.
We assumed we would get a top continental coach to replace him which made the NL appointment so ridiculous, lazy and underwhelming.
Howe seems to be in the Rodgers mould hence the positive reaction to his being touted as the new boss.
Massive rebuild required, Forrest, Turnbull, Jullien, Elyounoussi would be the only guys I’d keep
