Arne Engels ‘Undergoes’ West Ham Medical

Arne Engels is set to leave Celtic for West Ham after a full agreement was reached between the two clubs.

Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that the deal is now done, with Celtic agreeing to sell the Belgian midfielder for £22million.

Engels is expected to sign a contract with West Ham until 2031, with the move now only waiting on the player completing his medical.

The deal brings an end to weeks of interest from West Ham, who had made Engels one of their main midfield targets this summer.

Celtic had been determined to hold out for a significant fee before allowing the 22-year-old to leave, and the agreement now looks set to bring in £22m.

Augsburg will also benefit from the transfer through a 10 per cent sell-on clause, reportedly worth around €2.6m.

The timing of the move is notable with Celtic preparing for their Champions League play-off first leg against LASK.

Engels has been an important part of the Celtic midfield, and his departure leaves Martin O’Neill with another major decision to make in the middle of the park.

Mika Baur has already arrived from Paderborn, but Celtic could still look to add another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

The Hoops have also been linked with Gvidas Ginetis and Miguel Chaiwa as they consider their options.

For Engels, the move to West Ham now appears to be at the final stage, with only the medical left before the transfer can be completed.
