SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have launched an investigation into Liam Shaw’s move to Celtic it has emerged.

The club website confirmed the news Liam has signed for Celtic and will join up with the Glasgow club in the summer but they’re not happy about how things got out.

The English lower league club have claimed they were in correspondence with Celtic about their intentions to sign Liam. They say an agreement was made that neither party would disclose the deal in the public domain so Liam could see out the rest of his deal without hassle.

Neil Lennon then walked into a press conference and confirmed the deal. At which point we and all other Celtic media outlets reported the done deal.

We then questioned why the club had not made an official announcement on the site about the player. Neil Lennon was then asked in another press conference if he had any more news on it and he point blank refused to comment.

It appears nobody gave the Irishman the memo this deal was to stay in-house.

Sheffield Wednesday are fuming and are investigating if they have any recourse after an agreement between the two clubs was breached.

Statement in full.

Sheffield Wednesday can confirm that midfielder Liam Shaw has signed a pre-contract agreement with Scottish Premiership side Celtic.

We are currently investigating this matter and will consider if there are any further steps available to protect the club’s interest.

It was not our intention to place this development into the public domain out of respect to all parties concerned.

However, we were contacted by Celtic informing the club of their intention to formally confirm this development, which was revealed by the former Celtic manager in a media briefing.

Both clubs exchanged statements in advance of a coordinated release but Celtic have since ceased correspondence to this end.

Shaw remains a Sheffield Wednesday player until the expiry of his current contract and will be available for selection for the remainder of the season.

We will make no further comment at this time.
