Everton are reportedly weighing up a January swoop for Celtic forward Daizen Maeda, as uncertainty over his Parkhead future continues to grow.

The Japan international revealed during the summer that he had agreed terms with a club – believed to be in Germany – before Celtic blocked the move. Since then, speculation has persisted, with Premier League clubs keeping tabs on the situation.

Now, reports suggest that David Moyes’ Everton are ready to test Celtic’s resolve when the window reopens. The Toffees have made a strong start to life in their new stadium and are keen to bolster their attacking options with Maeda’s blistering pace and tireless work rate. [SportsBoom]

The 27-year-old was a key figure in last season’s title triumph, netting 33 goals across all competitions. But this campaign has been more difficult, with just two goals in 11 appearances amid signs that transfer uncertainty may be affecting his performances.

If Maeda is allowed to leave in January, with 18 months left on his deal, they must avoid the mistakes of past windows. Fans are still frustrated at the failure to replace Kyogo after his departure to France, and the exits of Nicolas Kühn and Adam Idah further depleted Brendan Rodgers’ attacking options.

With months to prepare, supporters will expect the hierarchy to have a replacement lined up if Maeda does depart. Letting him go without securing a proven forward would risk repeating the recruitment blunders that have already sparked widespread fan protests this season.

  1. Why keep him his form only going to get worse no players board member or supporters club bigger than the club these people have to relise this green brigade is separating them self from the main support

  2. I agree with both Jack and Peter Cassidy – since the end of the season Maeda has been a shadow of himself his form has been very poor, he looks like someone who does not want to be here! Celtic should accept any offer above £15m for him in January, they should be looking to have a replacement ready to come in from day 1 of the transfer window!

  3. Did the board deliberately not sign a replacement for him? It clearly has unsettled him and who knows what’s going on in this crazy game with the manager. Must now be sold and replacement MUST be in as he goes out.

  4. I’ve said for a while Celtic should offer Dundee a fair price for Simon Murray.
He scores goals and is a defenders nightmare.
Around a million would probably seal the deal.
Also what about Boyle from Hibs

  5. Maeda has been a great player for Celtic since he arrived. Not his fault all tha players he links with huv been sold\injured during his stay.

He cannot ‘up his geme’ any more than tha captain has?

And as for Calmac, his interplay huz been at a loss tae?

Both players (and tha squad in general) need fresh blood, ideas, and a fuc&in lock in.

As tha whole squadz form huz been atrocious.

I’d better keep my comments tae masel.

Most of tha squad members are erect members, in my opinion.

Just stauwnin at bus stops, whilst tha league and Europe, drives by on them.
