English Premier League side Newcastle United are reportedly still keen on a move for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer.

As reported by The Athletic, the Magpies were one of the first sides interested in making a move for the Norwegian supposedly, and that stance remains the same for Steve Bruce’s side.

It appeared at one point that Newcastle would be beaten to a move for Ajer by the likes of Norwich City and Bayern Leverkusen. However, the two sides now look to have moved on to other targets having bids of around £10 million turned down by the club.

It is almost certain that the 23-year old will depart the club this summer, admitting in an interview last month that he was looking to end his stay at Parkhead.

With just 12 months left on his contract, it would be a sensible decision to sell him by the club.

At the same time, the sale of Ajer would add some much-needed funds to Ange Postecoglou as he looks to continue the rebuild of his new-look squad going into next season.
