Liverpool left-back Andy Roberston has admitted that he would ‘love to pull on a Celtic shirt’ at some point in his career.

The Scotland captain was let go by Celtic at a young age and went on to play for sides such as Queens Park, Dundee United and Hull City before ultimately taking the step-up to English Premier League giants Liverpool.

That clearly hasn’t stopped his love for Celtic though.

Speaking in an interview with PLZ Soccer, Robertson admitted he would love to come to Scotland and pull on the Hoops at some point. However, it would need to be at the right time and not in the latter stages of his career.

“My aim is to finish at Liverpool. But I know how tough it is to stay at the highest level and that’s why I’d love to play for Celtic.

“Back when I was a young boy, growing up I always said, I’ll give my best years to Celtic and I don’t want to go there when I’m old and maybe can’t move as much and I get all my mates hating on me because I can’t perform the way I may be used to.

“I will come to make that decision just now of course. I’ve still got a good length on my contract at Liverpool.  I want to stay here forever. Hope to retire here but if I keep going and I feel fit, I feel healthy. But you know when you get into your thirties I think maybe things change and I’d love to retire at this club.

“If not, then I’d look at options and I’d love to pull on a Celtic shirt. I don’t want to be an old fart when I go up there, I want to be able to still play well.”

Like many players, Robertson clearly has the ambition to play at the top level with a side like Liverpool for many years to come. But it is nice to hear of players such as himself and how they still hold the club in high regard as a fan.

Who knows what the future holds and at some point, we might see the left-back running down the wings of Parkhead one day.
