West Brom winger Robert Snodgrass has claimed he would have called up Celtic frontman Leigh Griffiths to Scotland’s Euros squad.

After what has been a tough season for the 30-year old striker, Griffiths missed out on a spot in Steve Clarke’s Euro 2020 squad which will be headed to their first international tournament in 20+ years.

However, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily Podcast, Snodgrass said he would have called up his former team-mate with both Scotland and Livingston as a youngster, with his ‘instinct’ in front of goal.

“Listen, in terms of finishing, since he was a kid really when he was like 16, coming through and I’ve said this many times that he just has that instinct.

“He would shoot from anywhere in the park.

“To answer your question he has got that natural ability and Pat (Nevin) will tell you those strikers think differently, they hit it quicker than wingers, midfielders or defenders, they just know.

“So to have him in there with his record; what’s obviously gone against Griffiths is that he’s not played a lot of games consistently this year. They’ve (Celtic) obviously gone for (Odsonne) Edouard up top.

“Pat will tell you always need goal scorers in your team, and I think looking at it I’d like to have him in the team because I know what he can do.

”Steve Clarke is the man and he knows. Sometimes you say people have just missed out, and that you are actually saying they aren’t a good player, it’s not that.

“It’s a tough job for the manager and he has made that decision.”

In his 26-man squad, Clarke decided to go with the trio of Lyndon Dykes, Che Adams and Kevin Nesbit as his strikers for the tournament.

Some fans believed that Griffiths had an outside chance to make the squad, after featuring back in November in the squad which qualified for the tournament.

But it just wasn’t to be for him, in what could quite possibly be his last chance to play at a tournament.

It is unfortunate, however, there are others in the squad who probably merit the selection much more than Griffiths at this stage.
