CELTIC are reportedly having second thoughts about the interest shown in defender Erik Sviatchenko after their deal for South Africa Rivaldo Coetzee fell through.

The 20-year-old defender was expected to be unveiled late last week, but a red flag with a foot injury brought the deal to a screeching halt.

This is a massive blow to Brendan Rodgers’ plans who was willing to let Erik Sviatchenko move on with Besiktas very keen on the Dane.

Coetzee’s injury has thrown these plans out the window for the moment. The Celtic manager has other targets, but all deals now will have to start from scratch and with a week left of the transfer window it becomes a race against time.

Celtic may have to wait till January to either go back for Rivaldo or bring in another target.
