CELTIC DEFENDER Erik Sviatchenko has saluted his fellow defender Dedryk Boyata after the Belgian forced his way back into the side after poor form and injury.

The defender who looked like a rabbit in the headlights at some points last season has proven a great asset so far for Brendan Rodgers and it seen Erik drop to the bench because of the Boyata’s form.

Such is the spirit in the dressing room, Erik has been impressed by Dedryk’s resurgence and his recent spell on the bench has made him hungrier as a player.

“It’s a great example for everyone to see what Dedryck has done. He was out of the side for a long time and no-one really thought he would have another chance here but he’s been great and his displays have lifted all of us. It’s been really nice to see.”

Competition improves the squad and it will only benefit Erik, Jozo and Dedryk going forward.
