Celtic were knocked out of the conference league on Thursday night after Bodo/Glimt comprehensively beat the Hoops 5-1 on aggregate.

There’s no getting away from the disappointment of losing the tie, Celtic should have done better over two legs.

However, after the game, ESPN decided to try and rub salt in the wounds by posting Celtic became the first team to be knocked out of three European competitions in the one season. An attempt to look clever and pander to a certain part of twitter.

It’s completely and utterly false.

Without even checking we can tel you Alashkert and Cluj suffered the same fate before the Hoops.

It’s poor from ESPN who should care more about the facts than a quick viral tweet.

They’ve been told the message is untrue but have left it up. Another example of a lie can make it around the world before the truth has got its trousers on.

In any case, Celtic must quickly move on from European disappointment and get back to league duty on Sunday.
