A Celtic move for Evan Ferguson has not been ruled out this summer as Brendan Rodgers continues to assess his striking options ahead of the new season.

The Brighton forward has been identified as a possible addition by Shay Given, as the Hoops look to strengthen the position.

Kyogo departed the club back in January and is yet to be replaced, leaving Adam Idah as the leading option through the middle following his permanent arrival last summer. Rodgers will want to bring in another striker to make sure he has enough options for the season ahead.

Ferguson spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham but found it difficult to make an impression under Graham Potter. The Ireland international struggled for regular minutes and couldn’t rediscover the form that previously marked him out as one of Brighton’s brightest young talents.

Despite the challenges of last season, Brighton remain confident in Ferguson’s long-term future. The Premier League side are open to the idea of a loan move, with Celtic emerging as a potential destination to help him regain confidence and consistent game time.

Journalist Graeme Bailey believes a move to Celtic could suit all parties involved.

He said: (67 Hail Hail), “What better place for him to get his form back, his confidence back than at Celtic?

“I’m told that it could happen and I think it makes sense for Brighton, makes sense for the player and makes sense for Celtic.”

Any possible move would likely be a loan deal, allowing Brighton to retain full control over Ferguson’s future while providing him with valuable minutes. For Celtic, it would strengthen Rodgers’ options without committing to a permanent fee.

However, given the price the Hoops paid for Adam Idah after failing to include an option to buy, the club would likely want a purchase clause included if Ferguson were to arrive on loan, to avoid a repeat of the situation that saw them pay heavily for Idah last summer.

Rodgers will look to bring something different to the attack, with Ferguson’s strength, movement and eye for goal giving him a good mix alongside Idah.

With the summer transfer window set to open soon, Ferguson’s future is still up in the air. Celtic appear to be watching the situation as all parties decide whether a move to Glasgow would be the right step for him.
