It doesn’t seem too long ago Celtic were still in the hunt to re-sign Aaron Hickey from Hearts but the youngster’s resolve and ambition meant he went to Serie A in search of first team football.

Hickey, a Celtic fan, chose to leave his boyhood club to pursue first team football with Hearts to begin with and that move paid off. His subsequent move to Bologna has also done wonders for his career.

According to the Metro, there has been major EPL interest, Arsenal among the admirers for the left back. However, the same report states Arsenal will miss out on Hickey with Brentford set to snap up the Scottish full-back.

It would be vindication of Aaron’s path and what he’s managed to achieve since the days of trying to be noticed at Celtic.

He’s a serious talent, but the club’s youth system has lacked focus for many years and a proper route to the first team has not been attainable for many talented young players looking to progress.

If Hickey does join Brentford, he’ll be linking up with former Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer who moved to the English side last season.

The 19-year-old made 35 appearances for Bologna this season, scoring 5 and grabbing one assist. Could he be a surprise inclusion in the Scotland squad?
