Former Celtic defender Roy Aitken has urged Kristoffer Ajer to stay put this summer amid speculation surrounding the Norwegian’s future.

Ajer has become an important first team player at the club over the past 18 months but there has been constant speculation he wants to move on this summer.

His former agent fired the first shot back in March when he claimed Ajer wouldn’t be signing a new deal with the Scottish champions. Ajer has never countered those claims and has kept his head down.

With the bhoys chasing history, we need everyone to a man committed for the season. Former Celtic hero Roy Aitken believes Ajer is best served staying at Celtic for the time being:

“Since moving from midfield into the back four, he has started to learn the discipline of the position.” Aitken told SunSport.

“His ability to carry the ball out from the back is an incredible asset. There is no question he has all the hallmarks of the modern centre-half.

“That ability to come forward and get an attack going is a real string to his bow, while his athleticism is very much in keeping with what is needed now in modern football. He is an exciting talent.

“But at Celtic he has the chance to play European football and be at a club where there are demands and pressures on him every single week.

“You don’t get away with a poor game at Celtic. He is developing all the time.”

Celtic don’t appear to be welcoming offers for Ajer but, as we all know, every single one of our players are available at the right price.
