Former Celtic defender Andres Hinkel is set to face off once again, against the Hoops Glasgow rivals Rangers, with the German currently assistant manager at RB Leipzig.

The 40-year old enjoyed a spell at Parkhead between 2008-2011, having spent time in both Germany and Spain with sides such as Stuttgart and Sevilla.

During that time, the German had success against the Ibrox side, collecting a Scottish Premiership title in 2007/08, as well as a League Cup winners medal, which saw the Hoops defeat Rangers in the final of the 2008/09 tournament.

Since his playing career came to an end in 2012, he has enjoyed a spell of coaching mostly at Stuttgart but also spent two years in Russia with Spartak Moscow.

As reported by Sun Sport, from there, he recently made a move to join the ex Spartak boss Domenico Tedesco at RB Leipzig and now faces another clash with Rangers in the semi-finals of the Europa League later this month.

The former Celtic man could play a key part in the clash as part of the Leipzig coaching staff, with the first leg of the semi-final also coming just before Rangers second trip to Celtic Park of the season.

I am sure Hinkel will be using a few of his former contacts in Glasgow to gain some extra information regarding their European opponents.
