Celtic yesterday announced that nine youngsters have signed their first professional deals with the club in an exciting academy update.

Several teenagers put pen to paper amid a summer of change in the youth ranks in Glasgow’s east end.

Darren O’Dea was recently promoted to Player Pathway Manager with Jonny Hayes looking set to assist B team Head Coach Stephen McManus.

In the running for the vacant under-18s role at Celtic was Charlie Mulgrew. The 38-year-old last month told CeltsAreHere that he was interviewed for the position, but it looks like Adam Asghar – a highly respected youth coach who was most recently in charge of Southampton under-21s – will land the job.

Eager to get into coaching and with ambitions to become a manager, Mulgrew will want to help develop his son Joshua, who just signed with the Hoops.

On Instagram, the five-time Scottish Premiership winner sent a heartfelt message to the youngster:

There haven’t been many father-and-son duos who have excelled for Celtic in different eras. Perhaps the Mulgrews could be the first.
