SHAUN MALONEY could make a sensational Celtic Park return after the news Roberto Martinez odds have been slashed on being the next Celtic manager.

Shaun left Celtic last season after just over a year in the role of youth team coach to join Roberto Martinez in the Belgium coaching set up. The former Celtic player could not resist the opportunity to coach senior players at International level under his old Wigan boss.

However, could the former Parkhead player and coach be the catalyst for Roberto Martinez becoming the Celtic manager nearly ten years since he turned down the role?

Martinez managed Belgium to a third-place finish in the World Cup last summer and his managerial stock is high at the moment.

When you look at potential candidates for the Celtic role, Martinez is one of the more high profile options which could be potentially available to the club. Would the Spaniard want to jump ship from Belgium before trying to win the Euro’s in just over a years time?

Shaun Maloney would certainly champion the idea of coming back to Celtic with Martinez in a first team capacity. Martinez is now the second favourite to take over in the summer, just behind interim boss Neil Lennon.
