FABIO CAPELLO has weighed into the Celtic managerial debate and believes his countryman Claudio Ranieri would be a perfect fit for the vacant Parkhead role.

The former England manager had high praise for the man who did the seemingly impossible with Leicester and win the Premier League.

Since then, the manager has struggled to attain the heights he once reached but Capello is in no doubt he would be a big acquisition for Celtic.

“Claudio Ranieri is an excellent person and a great man.” Capello told the Sunday Post.

“For me, he’s one of the very best coaches around, as he has shown managing really top-level sides in Italy, France, England and Spain.

“Claudio is at the top level of his profession, and after what he did at Leicester, he can do anything – even in Scotland.

“For him, it would be another excellent challenge, and considering the quality of Celtic, he could also perhaps win another title to add to his collection.

“It would be a good opportunity for him in a competition that’s quite different to England and Europe’s other big leagues.”

Celtic have been very quiet on who they’re considering for the vacant role. Everybody and their uncle has been linked with the position at this point. Rafa Benitez has been the bookies favourite this week but the Spaniard is still in negotiations with Newcastle over a new deal.

The bhoys have two games left before 100% of the attention turns to who will be taking over on a full time basis from Brendan Rodgers.

  1. Please pinch me Ranieri will come to a team as small in world football as the Hoops. Celtic couldn’t match his price possibly. I watched him take Fiorentina to dizzy hights in Europe on a shoestring budget. Your having a laugh. Then he goes to Valencia and turns them around and does the same at Leicester. I should say ‘ YES WAY’ But I would wake up.
