GARY LINEKER has told Danny Baker’s, ‘Behind Closed Doors’ Podcast he was offered a trial with Celtic as a young lad coming up in football.

The match of the day presenter had a very successful career playing with 80 caps for England, and playing for the likes of Spurs and Barcelona.

However, the emerging star wasn’t short of offers back in the day and the 57-year-old recalled he was scouted by Leeds and Celtic but, understandably the player only wanted to play for his boyhood team once they came calling and the rest is history.

Speaking on the podcast, Lineker was open and honest “I only ever had one trial and it was with Leicester.

“I’d three trials with them and I scored a few goals.

“I got asked to go for trials for three clubs – Leicester, Leeds and the other might have been Celtic.

“But I never went to the other two because I just wanted to play for Leicester.

Lineker is a big admirer of Celtic and every time he gets the chance to come and work at Celtic Park on a European night, the presenter always lets it be known what a special place it can be.

One of those random ‘what if’ stories football brings up on occasion.
