LIAM SCALES was a surprise late call up to the Ireland squad last week and made an exhausting journey to Azerbaijan with the squad and didn’t make the matchday squad.

The Celtic defender thought he might have had a better chance of getting on to at least the bench during a friendly against Qatar at the Aviva on Tuesday evening, but it wasn’t to be.

Scales has spent the last ten days training with his fellow Irishman but there has been no on-field opportunities. The player will return to Celtic and likely be on the bench for the club’s trip to Fir Park on Saturday.

Liam has only made one brief appearance for the club against Raith Rovers last month.

He’s been working hard to get up to speed. The intensity in training between Ireland and Celtic could hamper Liam’s chance of getting into the team quicker.

Celtic have a big month ahead before the next international break. Important Europa games and playing catch up in the SPFL.
