Celtic will send Chris Jullien on Loan to Schalke for this season, with an option to buy the Frenchman included in the negotiations.

The Italian transfer guru has confirmed that it’s a done deal and the contract will be signed in the coming hours after he’s completed his medical.

There has been no mention of a fee from Fabrizio, but it’s imaginable that Celtic will be looking for a fee of between £2M -£3M.

After eighteen months without significant first-team action, the player will be delighted to get the chance to play football again. Even better for the player, the German team plays in the top flight.

Also, it’s worth noting that Julien is in the last year of his Celtic deal. It doesn’t make sense that it would be a loan under those circumstances unless the Germans are obligated to pay a fee at the end of the loan.

In the past we’ve seen Celtic trigger contract extensions, like what happened last year with Karamoko Dembele and Leigh Griffiths, maybe Celtic have a trick up their sleeve.

Worry For Celtic

If the report is true, and the deal does include the option-to-buy, Celtic will be worried that Schalke doesn’t take up on this option. Loaning in Ko Itakura under similar circumstances last season, despite impressing, the club decided they’d not pay the fee required to secure the player’s services for the coming season.
