Celtic’s need for defensive reinforcements was no more coherent than in their friendly with Queen’s Park last night.

The Hoops conceded four goals against the Scottish Championship side in a game filled with as many positives as negatives.

In the United States versus the likes of Chelsea and Man City, the Celts will need to tighten up at the back and ahead of the new season kicking off, they have already been linked with some defenders.

Centre halves Dara O’Shea and Flavius Daniliuc have been touted as potential options for Brendan Rodgers, as has Carl Starfelt.

The Swede departed Glasgow in search of a new challenge last summer and eventually joined Celta Vigo in La Liga.

He fell out of favour at the end of last season amid the club’s appointment of a new manager and now, Fabrizio Romano has given an update about the 29-year-old’s future.

On X, the reliable transfer guru reports that Starfelt could leave Celta this summer, with several clubs inquiring about his situation.

It remains to be seen whether the Hoops are one of those teams, but a return to Glasgow for the centre-half was touted last month. Wages, however, are the issue with a potential deal.

To Celtic’s backline, Starfelt would bring much-needed stability. His partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers was formidable, and fans would love to see it rekindled this season.
