It has to be the worst kept secret in football regarding Kieran Tierney’s potential return to Parkhead. Posting on Thursday night, Fabrizio Romano responded to a retweet concerning Barcelona’s plans to recall left-back Alex Valle from Celtic and redirect him to Italian club Como.

The journalist confidently replied to a Celtic fan speculating Tierney or another left back would be coming in, “I expect Tierney to go to Celtic, telling you for some weeks now… get ready 🔙😉.” (X)

The bold statement has only added to the excitement of the former Celtic star returning to his boyhood club, a move fans would be delighted to see happen. While nothing is confirmed, Romano’s comments suggest the deal is close.

However, a deal to bring in Kieran in January would hinge on reaching an agreement with Arsenal even if a pre-contract agreement gets signed. The Scotland international is under contract with the Gunners until the summer, but has struggled for consistent first-team opportunities.

Kieran Tierney

The need for reinforcements in the left-back position is growing at Celtic, with Greg Taylor’s current contract set to expire this summer. Resolving the situation quickly is essential, whether by retaining Taylor or securing Tierney’s services. Or maybe even both!

The prospect of completing the deal within the current transfer window remains uncertain. While fans may be optimistic, the financial aspects of the move could pose a challenge. Arsenal are unlikely to let Tierney leave without securing a deal that’s favourable for them.

But we should get ready for a Kieran Tierney announcement sooner rather than later.

  1. Not a big deal, Kieran with his injury problem is not the answer, imagine him playing at Killie ground or up against the thugs and hammer throwers in the SPFL,if Taylor goes who does that leave,we need a midfield enforcer because we are powder puff in midfield, and I’m sure even the reduced wages Kieran will be on ,we should still be able to find a younger fitter left back, this is like one of sevcos high profile signings to distract from the fact we ain’t getting any other new faces in.If some sites are to be believed we sell a proven striker ie kyogo, and then buy some unproven guy , even if Celtic make money from kyogos sale what’s the point , Idah is not good enough so no way can we sell kyogo but with the Celtic board all that matters is the bottom line ie cash in the bank and regardless of progress in Europe.Mid January and still no sign of new faces coming in ,what’s new?

    • aye its pathetic jim. we should be investing in the squad now for europe next year. theres stories about 8 different players, numerous wingers and strikers.. i read that celtic have tried to lowball aston villa 5m for louie barry then lens countered with 6m. same old same old.i very much agree on the midfield enforcer role because thats a role we need for the ;eague never mind europe, its becoming more and more a problem now out midfield being bullied off the ball. unfortunately we wont see any big signings until say, hatate leaves in midfield and kyogo leaves for a striker.. kvistgaarden im really holding out for mbut the longer we leave it the more likely he is to go to the bundesliga for ligue 1. orjasaeter looks good, the swedish inoessa or whatever looks awesome and for 3m a bargain. pull the trigger and stop gambling with the season and europe this and next season.

  2. I’m more concerned about left sided centre back where a lot of the goals scored against Celtic are coming from.
Trusty is yet to prove himself and Scales isnt good enough. I also th ok no that signing Kieran Tierney is a mistake.
Not only because hes injury prone but also the fact he left Celtic, that doesnt seem to me he has Celtic at heart.
Brendan Rodgers left Celtic for the same reason but was almost crucified so why is Tierney being treated like a Messiah.
On the subject of centre backs, oh for someone like big Bobo or Mjalby.
I honestly think the midfield needs a bit of dig as they are too lightweight when they come up against the cluggers in the Scottish game

  3. Most Celtic Celtic fans love Tierney. He was a great player & servant for Celtic. The harsh realty is, he is injury prone & would still demand a sizable pay cheque.
I personally don’t think it would be a good idea. I would sign Taylor to a 2 yr deal. & look around for somebody else.

  4. KYOGO won’t be sold in this window,as Idah he is unfit doesn’t read game fully ,we bought a £3/4milion player for almost 3 times his true value,I,d like to see Kenny given chance to prove himself,he has proved he,s capable in Europe as well.

  5. I disagree. KTs recent injuries can be attributed to his “full on” type of play when not fully match fit. Up until the action man heid in charge at Arsenal dropped him, he was fine.

If we manage his time, he’ll be fine and we are getting a substantial upgrade at LB.

Idah is low on confidence but his link up play has been fine. The goals will come.

If Kyogo is sold, a ready made first team ready striker must be purchased. I trust the manager on this.

As for no new faces, it is frustrating but there is very little business being done.

Like it or not, we generally need the big Leagues to make moves first, before the dominoe effect kicks in.

We really have very little to complain about at the moment

  6. Some serious whining there lads. KT turning down 100k a week offers from multiple EPL teams to come home and you’re crying about him
Not being the answer? Give yourself a wobble guys. When fit, Tierney is the best LB we will ever have.

  7. Why oh why do people continually have a go at Greg Taylor he has been a great servant for Celtic and has been one of our most consistent good performers over his time. Is it because he isn’t a big name foreign signing??
It beats me why Arsenal would want to let Kieran Tierney go, he is one of the best defenders in Europe. Yes he has had problems with injury but that’s down to his combative style, he would be a great acquisition if he were to return to Parkhead.
Adam Idah is no where near a £9m+ player, he came in last season and done a good job but in truth he has never lived up to the expectations. Some have said he needs a good run in the team, but he has shown little to merit such a run – I believe Johnny Kenny or even Daniel Cummings are more deserving of a chance.
