CELTIC landed the unknown Lee O’Connor on deadline day as the versatile defender became Celtic’s final signing of the window.

We gave some lowdown on the Irishman on Tuesday when we sought the advice from a well placed Manchester United fan who was gutted to see the player go.

The Evening Times followed up on the signing by posting the below comments on social media from Utd fans who seemed upset about the player moving on. Two of them hoping for a buy back clause.

One wrote: “United are actually selling Lee O’Connor to Celtic.

“Jesus christ, who is making these decisions? How are you letting one of our best prospects go for next to nothing.

“We better insert a buy back clause”.

Another fumed: “If Lee O’Connor does go to Celtic on a permanent, there better be some sort of buy-back clause involved.”

One said: “Sad to see a youngster with so much potential leave, but its definitely a great move for him!”

A fourth moaned: “Can’t believe we’ve let Lee O’Connor go. Smashing player with huge potential.”

Now RecordSport have brought out their own review of the player from someone in the know and it appears Celtic have landed a player who looked destined for the Man Utd first team until his midnight flit to Celtic Park.

It reads: “O’Connor was rated as one of the hottest talents in the current youth set-up at the club and was tipped to make his first-team debut had he stayed at United this season.”

It really does seem Celtic have landed a player who is on the rise in the game. We’d be shocked to find out there was no sell-on clause attached to the deal but we certainly couldn’t see Celtic accepting a buy-back clause.

If the player lives up to this early hype he could be in the first team in the near future.

Fingers crossed.
