The vast majority of Celtic fans have put their backing behind Patrick Roberts to start this weekend in the wake of Scott Sinclair’s injury.

The on-loan midfielder has been used sparingly by Brendan Rodgers this season and while the fans might back his inclusion in the starting XI, it’s more likely that James Forrest will get the nod.

James has been going through somewhat of a renaissance of form under the Irishman but has started to look a bit jaded again the last 3-4 weeks. The Scottish midfielders dip in form plus Sinclair’s injury could pave the way for Patrick but it remains to be seen.celtic-shirts

Roberts is an obvious talent but I can see why the manager is reluctant to make him a focal part of the team for two reasons above all else ; the defensive side of his game is not up to scratch and he’s ultimately not our player.

Rodgers formation is such that he needs his midfielders to track back and help out in defensive areas when we don’t have the ball. He must feel Forrest does this better and is the safer choice all round.

The young City loanee, however, can produce a moment of magic and turn a game much more often than Forrest.

Of course Rodgers could start both at the weekend and have Rogic just in behind Dembele. It will be interesting to see how the manager approaches the game

Who do you think should start this weekend?

  1. Give the wee man a start, he’s not been given a real chance! If we want to see what he really can do get him on from the go!
Let him know we value his trickery, make him feel wanted…..and we will win our first trophy on Sunday!

  2. He might not be “our player” but what’s the point of signing a young loanee if that’s a reason not to play him?
Hardly fair on the lad or on his parent club whose paying most of his wages.

  3. Brendan on the news last night said that Leigh ( Griffiths ) was okay and had looked good in training, may be a surprise starter, I hope so we need him back in the team ASAP
