Celtic’s move for Farès Ghedjemis has ended, with the winger staying at Frosinone for the remainder of the season. Daily Record report that the decision came from the player, despite Celtic having an offer of around £6 million accepted by the Serie B side.
For a period, the deal looked on track. Celtic had reached an agreement with Frosinone and believed Ghedjemis was keen on a move to Glasgow. The 23-year-old had previously been open to the idea of moving to Scotland.
As the window progressed, his thinking shifted. Ghedjemis is understood to have taken a step back and decided to stay in Italy, committing himself to Frosinone’s push for promotion during the second half of the season. With the club well placed in Serie B, he continues to play regularly and knows his role from week to week.
For Celtic, it shuts down one of their January options. The club were looking to add pace and width for games where breaking teams down can be difficult. With that move off, focus has turned elsewhere, and Mvuka is now set to sign as they reshape their attacking options.
Ghedjemis staying also helps Frosinone as they chase promotion. Losing a regular winger at this stage could have upset their rhythm, and his decision keeps things steady.
Celtic may return in the summer, but this window is done. Terms were agreed. The door was open. The player chose to remain where he is.
