The headline is just one mans opinion but when that one man is Brendan Rodgers it should carry some weight.

That was the conclusion of the Celtic manager when he was asked about Efe Ambrose as the players Celtic career came to an uncharacteristically quiet end.

The defender who sought after by Championship side Blackburn seen a deal fall through for the Nigerian because of red tape which seen the door open for former manager and mentor Neil Lennon to swoop in and procure his services.

The former Celtic manager has used the emergency loan rule that the lower league sides can take advantage of to take Efe to Easter road for the duration of what’s left of his Celtic contract.

While Rodgers couldn’t put his faith in the defender after the start of the season, the Irishman was full of praise for the African nation winners character.

“I have to say, I’ve arguably probably met the nicest man in football, I really have. Efe is an absolute gentleman.

“There aren’t too many men who come into your office regularly and talk about how they appreciate the training and thank you for learning and the work he’s been given” said the Celtic boss.

Efe has had his critics but he’s gave us warm and uplifting memories, from back flips to helping Neil Lennon’s Celtic side secure one of the greatest results in the clubs long and illustrious history.

We wish him all the best with the former Celtic gaffer at Hibs and hope he can help the Easter road outfit get back to where they belong.

As for our Efe Ambrose Ballon d’or shirt – I think it’s time to retire it to the annals of history. We had a good run.

  1. I always felt Efe had the makings of a super attacking midfielder but he never got that chance. He always had me hiding behind the couch as a defender but I never doubted his commitment. He never shied away from answering the call. I wish him every success.
