Oliver Burke is like all other footballers, he wants to play football. The twenty-one-year-old watched his hype train crash and burn into no game time. Last night the youngster got a full ninety minutes under his belt in a Celtic jersey.

Celtic played the game with the relative ease that was expected. Rodgers team selection might not have been so easy against tougher opposition but some were still surprised to see the Scotland U21 international named as a lone striker. Burke didn’t exactly set the attacking forward line on fire. Most Celtic fans realise he wasn’t playing in his natural position and that he is bound to be rusty around the edges.

The young winger told The Scotsman of the hunger to get some game time under his belt.

“I feel like I have been dying, starving from not playing games,” he said. “Hopefully now I can come here, enjoy myself and play games. That’s really important to develop me as a player. I want to train as hard as I can, give everything for the club and fight for a place in the team.”

Rodgers commented on the player’s hunger too after the game and likened Burke to Raheem Sterling. The transfer fees that have followed the twenty-one-year-old around his short career are insane. They are completely out of the player’s hands but there is no reason now for the player not to excel under Rodgers.

  1. That is what happens when you go for money you start playing for teams that win nothing for 10/20 or 50 years sometimes more some times nothing, here we must win things so no hiding get stuck in and do a job for the team or move out…
