Former Celtic player and assistant manager John Collins has revealed it was Fergal Harkin from Manchester City who helped facilitate some big moves for Ronny Deila back when John and Ronny were in charge of the team.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, the former midfielder explained it was Harkin who directly dealt with Peter Lawwell to bring in the likes of Boyata, Roberts and Guidetti from City on loan and permanent deals.

Two of which went on to be invincible!

Harkin has been tipped to take on a DoF position at the club for some time now but nothing has been forthcoming as of late.

Collins explains Fergal’s position and the City man’s relationship with Peter Lawwell: “He’s never been a director of football before. He looks after the loan players, he places them at clubs, which is an important role.

“He’s done a good job for Celtic – he was responsible for Jason Denayer, John Guidetti, Patrick Roberts, Dedryck Boyata. So, they were all successful at Celtic. He’s done a good job for Celtic in the past.

“I know he’s got a good relationship with Peter [Lawwell] and the board, so he is a possibility, but he hasn’t been a director of football before.”

Celtic need their new structure in place sooner rather than later.

Dominic McKay starts on Monday morning, at which point, Celtic fans will be looking to the new man for direction.

McKay will be working with Peter Lawwell until the summer.

If Harkin is the man for the position then surely the club have to pull the trigger. If Eddie Howe wants his own man and the club aren’t comfortable with it, then we all have to move on.
