CELTIC are preparing for a worst case scenario with Filip Benkovic after the player picked up a knee injury against Hamilton at the weekend.

The Croatian defender has been Celtic’s best centre-back by a mile this season since coming in on-loan from Leicester in the final days of the summer window.

However, things look to have taken a very unfortunate turn with the 21-year-old sent for a scan to find out just how much damage has been done.

Right now the Evening Times is reporting that a best case scenario would be a prolonged absence but back before the end of the season. Worst case, the Croatian under 21 will be out for the rest of the season bringing his Celtic career to a very premature end.

With Celtic believing the player will be out at least for a while, the club is reportedly scrambling to bring in a centre back; something Brendan Rodgers didn’t want to do until the summer.

With less than 48 hours to go, Celtic again find themselves between a rock and a hard place as they try and make deals.
