If we learned anything from Brendan Rodgers time at Celtic we learned to read between the lines when the manager spoke. Most of the time he wouldn’t come right out and say it but the words he used to convey a situation of any given player would give you the insight you needed.

Asked about Fillip Benkovic this week, the Leicester manager fielded questions about the defender’s immediate future with the Croatian yet to make a first team appearance for Leicester.

Benkovic helped Celtic to a treble treble last season and at the time Neil Lennon was keen to keep the big man about beyond the loan deal Brendan Rodgers had brought him to Celtic on.

It didn’t materialise in the summer but Celtic could now have renewed optimism if the Celtic manager is still keen on Filip with Rodgers response this week.

“It depends. If there’s the right team for him and there’s the right possibility then of course we will look at that.” Rodgers told RecordSport.

“He stayed behind, he’s offered us really good cover, he’s been involved in some of the Under-23s games, so he’s been playing football.

“We’ll see how that develops over the course of January.”

Celtic have Christopher Jullien, Kristoffer Ajer, Hatem Elhamed, Jozo Simunovic and Nir Bitton to call upon at centre back. Jozo and Hatem both out at the moment – could Celtic bring back the defender in January for their 2020 push?
